The once vibrant world of Filgaia is slowly dying, a result of some cataclysmic event lost in the dim, misty reaches of the past. The few pathetic remnants of once mighty nations are caught up in an endless cycle of war, fighting over Filgaia's ever dwindling natural resources. Amidst the carnage and slow decay, there is one kingdom that has until recently managed to avoid the chaos and suffering plaguing its neighbors; the kingdom of Eleusinis.

However, the kingdom is slowly descending into anarchy with the king inflicted with a mysterious illness that has kept him bed-ridden, intensifying the future uncertainty as the heir-apparent disappeared a year earlier and is presumed to have been murdered. An opportunistic senate has formed its own police force and is gradually usurping power from the royal family.

It is against this backdrop of political intrigue and social decay that the main character Clarissa Avir, accompanied by her half-brother and protector, Felius, enter Eleusinis hot on the trail of Rupert Dandridge, the man who murdered her mother. n 1997, Sony wowed the Playstation RPG masses with Wild Arms which featured an involving storyline, affable characters and slick battle techniques. While the game itself was great, the graphics were...less so. Sony revisits the original Wild Arms with a remake which redoes the entire game with shiny graphical sheen and updated game play.

The forces of evil are at work again, and it's up to a boy, a sorceress, and a rebel to turn the tide in Wild Arms 2, Sony's latest role-playing game.

Each character starts out alone and must fight bosses and enemies as well as develop his or her own personal set of special moves. Aside from the traditional turn-based fighting, Wild Arms 2 throws in a bit of action, and characters get weapons that they can use to solve puzzles.

The graphics in this game are fully 3-D with huge bosses, but the story is a little thin. It's your typical "beat the megalomaniac before he takes over the world" plot, which players familiar with the genre have seen far too often in games past. Still, there's a large cast of characters, with the playable characters eventually joining forces, and it's fun getting them there. For fans of action role-playing games, this one shouldn't be missed. --Robb Guido
